Full StoryThe Middle Head Walking Track project aimed to enhance visitation and highlight the historical and natural significance of the area as part of the broader Sydney Harbour Scenic Walk. NewScape Design played a crucial role in determining a feasible route that considered various factors such as cultural and heritage sites, disabled access, management boundaries, and the need for lookout points and bridges. Working in collaboration with interpretation consultants, NewScape ensured a seamless integration of wayfinding and interpretation elements, and provided visual materials and a promotional video to engage stakeholders and the community in the proposed walking track experience.
NewScape Design also focused on incorporating the rich military history of the Middle Head site into the design of lookouts and viewing areas. Balancing safety considerations with the preservation of heritage, the design aimed to maximise views over the Sydney Harbour and out to the heads. By strategically locating these lookout points, visitors can experience the breathtaking vistas while immersing themselves in the historical significance of the area’s military past. The design approach ensured that the lookouts and viewing areas complemented the overall walking track experience, offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and European heritage.
The project is currently in the process of being constructed with The Belvedere Georges Head complete.
