NewScape were engaged by private clients to upgrade their backyard at Hamelin Place, Illawong, South Sydney. The dwelling boasts a backyard with a north east aspect that is on a downhill slope facing native bushland which forms the natural catchment for Still Creek and Woronora River.

The impetus for the backyard upgrade was to capitalise on the sites stunning natural and man-made qualities in order to create a functional space for family life. The objectives of the project were to improve overall site functionality, define the spaces and programme of the site enabling flexibility, improve the transitions between each area, celebrate the existing natural features of the site and integrate existing man-made features into the new design. The resulting design provided our clients with improved family liveability and used the existing features to showcase the unique elements of the site.
