Lake Parramatta Swimming Area

Parks & Open Space

Set within the bushland surrounds of Lake Parramatta, this much-loved swimming spot offers a rare opportunity for visitors to experience natural swimming close to the city. As visitation increased, City of Parramatta engaged NewScape Design to enhance the visitor experience while carefully protecting the ecological health and character of the lake and its surrounds.

Working within a sensitive natural setting, our approach prioritised the landscape itself, ensuring new infrastructure supports — rather than competes with — the experience of place. Upgrades focused on improving water access, safety and amenity while ensuring all interventions remained visually recessive and environmentally responsive. In collaboration with ecological specialists, designs were developed to minimise erosion, protect aquatic habitats and maintain water quality while allowing more people to enjoy the lake safely.

The completed works expand the swimming area and introduce carefully integrated access structures and shoreline improvements that sit lightly within the landscape. The result is a safer, more accessible and environmentally sensitive swimming precinct that strengthens the community’s connection to this unique natural place while safeguarding it for future generations.
