Constitition Road

Integrated Landscapes

Constitution Road is a key connection within the City of Ryde, linking surrounding residential neighbourhoods with Meadowbank Station and nearby employment and commercial precincts. Increasing population growth and ageing infrastructure have placed pressure on the corridor, prompting Council to initiate a major upgrade program to improve safety, capacity and the overall quality of the public domain.

NewScape Design has been engaged to deliver landscape architecture services as part of the Stage 1 upgrade, supporting the transformation of the corridor into a safer, greener and more welcoming streetscape for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Works include road widening and intersection upgrades, restoration of embankments and retaining structures, improvements to service lanes and significant upgrades to the public domain, including lighting, planting and street furniture.

The landscape response focuses on softening the road environment and strengthening the identity of the corridor through increased tree canopy, resilient planting and cohesive public domain materials aligned with Council’s public domain strategy. Opportunities for public art and cultural storytelling are also being explored, including collaboration with local artists and Traditional Custodians to embed stories of place within retaining walls and public spaces along the route.

The result will be a revitalised urban corridor that not only improves movement and safety outcomes, but also delivers a greener, more connected and more enjoyable everyday experience for the Meadowbank community and visitors arriving by rail, bus, bike or on foot.
