Upgrading the visitor precinct of the unique Wellington Caves site
NewScape collaborated with TRC to develop the Masterplan for Wellington Caves, renowned as the first cave system to be surveyed by European settlers in Australia and the first finding of megafauna Diprotodon fossils. Rich in heritage, scientific discoveries and visitor experience, the site has much potential as a tourist destination. However, the existing visitor facilities require upgrading to draw in a wider visitor market.
The proposed masterplan includes an entry upgrade to draw traffic to a new Visitor Experience Centre and fossil-themed regional playground. Other planned upgrades include picnic areas, walking tracks, cave amphitheatre and new cafe with views to the western ranges. A new dormitory for school groups and luxury accommodation will compliment the existing accommodation options.
