Enhancing the experience of the iconic Sydney Harbour Scenic Walk.
The Middle Head Walking track forms a critical link connecting the north and south heads of the broader Sydney Harbour Scenic Walk.
The aim of the Middle Head Walking Track Project was to increase visitation along this section of the walk, showcasing the incredible range of historic storylines that speak to several phases of land uses. Along with cultural histories, the site contains natural beauty and spectacular views for visitors to enjoy. NewScape were engaged to undertake investigations to determine a feasible route for the walking track. The proposed track needed to consider any impacts of increased visitation to existing sites, pathways that traversed management boundaries of NPWS and Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, disabled access requirements, cultural and heritage sites, a variety of topography and vegetation communities, requirements for lookouts, bridges and other significant structures.
NewScape Design worked closely with NPWS appointed interpretation consultants to ensure that the interpretation experience was seamlessly integrated with the walking track design. We prepared story boards with route alignment, visitor experience imagery and materials palette for stakeholder and community consultation. In addition to this collateral NewScape design directed a promotional video that incorporated drone footage and maps to further tell the story of the proposed walking track experience.
This project is currently at community consultation phase. Once the final route is confirmed after stakeholder and community consultation, NewScape will produce a final walking track design and documentation package suitable for construction.
