Dorrigo National Park Visitor Precincts

World Heritage innovative and visionary design

National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) engaged NewScape Design to develop a visionary concept design for Dorrigo National Park to inspire and help the development of a broader master plan.

A multi disciplinary team lead by NewScape Design was appointed by National Parks & Wildlife Services (NPWS). The team included award winning architects Studio Hollenstein and industry leaders in tourism strategy and economic feasibility studies, Stafford Strategy. Through analysis of visitor market trends, site analysis and consultation with National Parks the Project Team designed a concept that met the objectives of education and inspiring a love of nature while also facilitating revenue generating experiences that ensured the future economic sustainability of the designs.

The NewScape Project Team developed a concept that will elevate Dorrigo National Park to become a not to be missed experience for anyone travelling along the East Coast of Australia. Creating experiences that will transform the park from a day trip for those holidaying in Coffs Harbour to a destination in its own right with enough appeal to attract extended stays flowing economic benefits into the local community.

The concept design included: car park and entry upgrades, cultural and environmental education, an architecturally designed Rainforest Visitor Centre, improvements to exisiting walking tracks, development of an interactive, educational rainforest installation experience, cultural camps and outdoor education spaces, Gondwana nature playground, supported camping, eco-cabins, traditional camping, multi-day walks with hiker camps and connection into Dorrigo town.
